Професионална автобиография:
Д-р Димитър Атанасов е преподавател с дългогодишен опит в областта на вероятностите, стстатистиката и техните приложения в различни области на науката. Защитил е докторската си теза през 2007 г. в областа на „Теория на вероятностите и математическа статистика“.
В различни етапи от своята кариера е преподавал във Факултета по матеметика и информатика на СУ "Св. Кл. Охридски", ТУ София и Нов Български Университет. Участвал е в редица национални и международни проекти. Автор е на една книга и над 50 публикации в областта на статистиката и нейните приложения, автор е на множество курсове от бакалавърско и магистърско ниво.
Член на Българското статистическо дружество, Българското дружество за изследване и оценяване в образованието. Член на редколегията на списание "Математика и информатика".
